State Report Card Results

Posted on: September 26, 2022

The 2021-2022 school report cards were released by theOhio Department of Education. This year, they used a new star-based rating system that replaced the former A through F grades.

Schools were graded out of five stars in specific categories: Achievement, Progress, Gap Closing, Graduation, and Early Literacy for a possible total of 25. Kings received 22 out of a possible 25 stars, which ranks Kings in the top 10 in Southwest Ohio.

The ratings are out of five stars:

  • One or two stars – below state standards.
  • Three stars – met state standards.
  • Four or five stars – exceeded state standards.

In averaging star ratings by county, Delaware comes out on top with an average of 21.5 stars per district. This is followed by Geauga (20.8) Medina (20.7), and Shelby and Warren counties (20.5 each).

Kings received a 5-star rating in achievement, gap closing, and early literacy.

Only 92 districts in the state received a 5-star rating in achievement. The average achievement rating for districts across the state is 3.48 stars.

The Achievement component represents the number of students who passed the state tests and how well they performed on them. This component includes three additional performance indicators —the Chronic Absenteeism Improvement Indicator, End-of-Course Improvement Indicator, and Gifted Indicator.

Gap closing looks at several data points to assess whether student subgroups based on race, ability, and economic status are meeting state standards. The average gap closing rating for districts across the state is 4.14 stars.

The Early literacy rating comes from information from third-grade reading tests, fourth-grade promotions, and literacy improvement from kindergarten to third grade. The average early literacy rating for districts across the state is 2.88 stars.

Lastly, another component of the report card is the Performance Index (PI). The performance index represents whether student performance on state tests met established thresholds and how well students performed on tests overall, according to the Ohio Department of Education. This is based on state tests for third grade through high school.

The 2021-2022 scores among all districts in the state ranged from 43.3 to 110.1. This year's Kings District PI score is 97.7. The PI score increased from last year's score of 92.2. This score places Kings #77 out of 607 districts in Ohio. The average Performance Index in Ohio is 79.3.
