Kings Board of Education Approve Resolution to Place Bond on March 2024 Ballot
The Kings Local School District Board of Education met in a Special Meeting on Tuesday, December 4. In that meeting, the Board officially approved the Master Facility Plan developed by the Community Advisory Team.
Here is a summary of the key points from the recent meeting and decisions made:
-
The plan addresses current capacity challenges and optimizes educational facility usage.
-
The plan calls for building a new Kings High School and transitioning our three elementary schools (J.F. Burns, Kings Mills, South Lebanon) to K-3 schools.
-
Columbia Intermediate School will be expanded to house 4th-5th graders.
-
The current Kings High School will become Kings Junior High for grades 6-8.
-
The Board approved putting a $142 million bond levy before voters on the March 19, 2024 ballot to fund construction.
-
The ballot measure will be for 5.971 mills, equaling $209 per $100K home value.*
*The community's actual financial impact is projected to be 3.50 mills or $123 annually per $100K of true home value. This is due to the proactive work that the District has done with financial experts to develop a plan that minimizes the impact on taxpayers while still addressing the critical infrastructure needs. The reduction of old project payments and a phased approach to new payments will allow for a smaller financial impact.
The District will be providing more information soon. Please visit the Kings Facilities Page on the Kings website to learn more.
