Business Professionals of America

Throughout the fall, winter and early spring, Business Professionals of America State Associations hold Fall, Regional and State Leadership conferences for leadership development, competitions, awards, elections and more.  Some BPA conferences consist of all divisions together at a single conference, whereas some BPA states hold conferences for their divisions separately. Additionally, some states have a fall and a winter/spring conference, while others only hold a winter/spring conference.


Honor Roll

At the end of each nine-week grading period, recognition is given to those students who achieve academically.  In order to be awarded Honor Roll status, a student must achieve a weighted grade point according to these criteria:

Summa Cum Laude:  4.00 and above

Magna Cum Laude:  3.75 to 3.99

Cum Laude: 3.50 - 3.74

**College Credit Plus courses are semester courses.  Thus, students taking these classes are not eligible for Honor Roll recognition.

International Thespian Society Troup 7739

Founded in 1929, ITS is the student honorary division of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), the professional association for theatre education.  It serves 4,700 schools around the world with an active student membership of more than 125,000.  Each Thespian inductee has completed over 100 hours of excellent work in theatre arts and related disciplines. In doing so, they have acquired essential 21st-century life and career skills that include creativity and innovation, critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and effective communication.  Inductees join the ranks of over 2.3 million Thespians and Thespian alumni including Jane Lynch, John Goodman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Tom Hanks

Military Academy Appointments

Appointed Students

Members of Congress are authorized by law to nominate candidates for appointment to four U.S. service academies. These schools are the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.


National Honor Society

2020-2021 Members

Acceptance into this Society is by application only. In order to be eligible for the National Honor Society Chapter, students must maintain a minimum grade point average.  In addition, students must exhibit strong evidence of character, leadership, and service in the school and community.  Those students who are academically eligible are notified during the first semester of their junior year.  Students not eligible or not selected during the junior year may become eligible or be reconsidered their senior year.  The National Honor Society follows all guidelines described in the National Handbook and Chapter By-Laws.  


National Merit Scholarship 

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and college scholarships that began in 1955. United States high school students enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which serves as an initial screen of over 1.5 million entrants each year, and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.

National Technical Honor Society

Acceptance into this Society is by application only.  The National Technical Honor Society honors the achievements of top Career Technical Education students, provides scholarships to encourage the pursuit of higher education, and cultivates excellence in today’s highly competitive, skilled workforce.

Ohio Mathematics League Competition

Current Top Performers

Formerly Mu Alpha Theta, KHS Math Team members are part of the over one million students from the United States and Canada who participate in Math League Contests throughout the school year.  The goal of the club is to encourage student interest and confidence in mathematics through problem solving from different fields of mathematics.  Please congratulate the following students who are the Kings Top Performers by their cumulative scores on the competitions so far this school year.


Overture Award Winners

The Overture Awards is a program that recognizes and rewards excellence in the arts among Greater Cincinnati students in grades 9-12. Its mission is to encourage arts education as an integral part of a student’s academic experience and to create an environment that encourages training in, and appreciation of, the arts. The Overture Awards Competition is the area’s largest solo arts competition and offers awards in six artistic disciplines: creative writing, dance, instrumental music, theatre, visual art, and vocal music.


Seal of Biliteracy

A Seal of Biliteracy recognizes graduating seniors who can demonstrate high levels of proficiency in English and at least one other language. A school or district gives this award by following state-established guidelines.

Spanish National Honor Society

Official Members

Acceptance into this Society is by application only.  Spanish National Honor Society is an academic honor society focused on Spanish language excellence in secondary education and promotes a continuity of interest in Spanish studies. Its motto is "¡Todos a una!" ("All Together for One Goal"). The group, which was established in 1953 in the United States is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Each chapter has its own unique name, which is associated with some aspects of the Spanish or Portuguese culture. Each society member must have taken three semesters of Spanish or Portuguese. He/she is required to maintain an "honor grade" or GPA, which correlates with the Society's mission of high academic achievement

Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the U.S., and the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have an impressive legacy dating back to 1923 and a noteworthy roster of past winners including Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford and Joyce Carol Oates. Regional judges reviewed nearly 5,000 pieces submitted by 229 educators. Works were judged on originality, technical skills, and the emergence of personal vision or voice.
