Kings Local School District is committed to meeting the needs of all learners through appropriately designed instruction and learning experiences. We are committed to meeting the unique needs of gifted learners cognitively, academically, and socially. We promote the development and growth of giftedness, critical thinking, and lifelong learning through a selection of specific services and supports including high-quality learning environments and experiences based on student needs.

The Ohio Department of Education requires districts to screen and identify gifted students through specific assessments and opportunities. To better understand GIfted Identification, please review our Gifted Identification Overview.

While the Ohio Department of Education does not require districts to provide services to gifted students, KLSD does offer a continuum of services and supports. Specific details can be found in our Overview of Gifted Services. The available programming is distinguished by classification as a service or a support. Gifted Services are official programs that meet state service requirements, establish a Written Education Plan (WEP) for the student, and are provided by qualified educators trained to meet the unique needs of gifted students. Gifted Supports are a wide variety of opportunities and enrichments that are available to gifted students without a WEP and can be provided by a general education teacher or appropriate support staff. KLSD is continuing to expand gifted services and supports in conjunction with the Kings Strong strategic plan.

We value the input from and collaboration with our local community and encourage you to reach out with any questions or concerns regarding gifted education.

For more information please review the Ohio Department of Education Gifted resources, the Ohio Association for Gifted Children, and the National Association for Gifted Children.
